Water Quality Instrument Flexibility in Groundwater Monitoring

Groundwater monitoring professionals are using YSI's 6-Series sondes to simplify their water quality monitoring needs. YSI 6-Series Multiparameter instrumentation is flexible and capable of meeting changing water quality measurement needs instantaneously with one single, compact, multiparameter instrument and display. They are easy to use, easy to calibrate, and easy to maintain. Additionally, YSI offers field replaceable probes that screw in and out. Also, the sondes can be used down hole or at ground surface. Down hole the sondes can be used for both in-situ sampling and unattended, long-term, continuous in situ monitoring and logging. At ground surface, the sondes can be used with or without a flow cell. Real-time telemetry systems can be designed for specialized groundwater monitoring needs.

Currently, this equipment is being used for quarterly groundwater sampling at landfills, industrial sites, underground storage tank sites, hazardous waste sites, animal farms, and other sampling procedures at a variety of natural attenuation, remediation, and enhanced bioremediation sites.

In situ measurements are critical for some groundwater monitoring programs, where it is imperative that representative analyses be obtained for formation water quality parameters such as dissolved oxygen and temperature. Regardless of the sampling device used, samples will undergo changes in pressure and temperature when brought from the formation to ground surface or atmospheric conditions. Consequently, in- situ measurements can give a more accurate picture of formation water chemistry. There is a growing trend in the groundwater industry for professionals to measure water quality parameters in-situ, such as at sites where natural attenuation is being tracked.
